Background of Nike

Nike started of as Blue Ribbon Sports at the University of Oregon in 1964. Philip Knight and his coach Bill Bowerman distributed Japanese Onitsuka Tiger shoes.
The first location for the company was set in Santa Monica at the year 1966. The relationship between Blue ribbon Sports and Onitsuka Tiger ended in 1971, and the company decided to launch its own line called "Nike"
The company went public in the 1980's and Nike successfully profitted 50% of the market share in the United States.
Wieden+Kennedy (The advertising department) made one of the most famous phrases in the history of marketing in 1988. "Just Do It" was named one of the top 5 slogans of all time in an 1999 article.

Today, Nike is one of the biggest transnational co-orperation in the world. They have a wide variety of products to sell which they make in factories all over the world.
Nike's first products were track running shoes. They now make shoes, jerseys, shorts, baselayers and get equipment for a wide range of sports including track & field, tennis, baseball, football, ice hockey, basketball and cricket, running, combat sports, golf, cross training, cyclying, volleyball, wrestling, cheerleading, aquatic activities ect. 
One of their famous shoes was the Nike Air Max released in 1987 and the Nike Air Jordan XX3 introduced in 2008. 

Nike's first professional athlete was a Romanian tennis player llie Nastase and the first track running legend Steve Prefontaine. Today, Steve Prefontaine Building is named in his honor in the Nike HQ.
Other famous sports sponsers were: Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova, Serena Williams from tennis, and Tiger Woods, Trevor Immelman and Paul Casey from Golf.

Nike sponcers the Indian Criket team for the tast 5 years and Nike beat Adidas and Puma by bidding highest (US$43 million)
Nike also sponcers many leading clubs in the football world such as the US National Team, Manchester United, Arsenal, FC Barcelona, ect.
